THE LAUNDRY ROOM- SPRING 2023 ONE ROOM CHALLENGE WEEK THREE (LESSONS LEARNED IN REMOVING TILE COUNTER TOPS)

Here we are....week three!
I finally got the last of the tile counters off and sink removed.  The valves to the sink were broken so, I must admit, I hired help. I was solo parenting all week , Shaun was on business trip, and I could not lift the sink myself (80 pounds ) or fix plumbing problem. I have this great handyman that helped and explained how to fix the damaged wall.

I bought the stone counters this week!!! There were so many beautiful options but I went with what I already have in my kitchen Carrera Marble. I wanted to keep the look throughout the home consistent , and kept in mind what would best be suited for the overall design of a 1920's utility room.  The counters are going to be installed by professionals this weekend because cutting and lifting stone is way beyond my skill set.

I also bought a new sink. Again, staying room's style,  I choice a drop in enameled cast iron, self rounded-rimming ledge type. The sink should arrive in a week.

I was really influenced by the picture below in choosing the sink. It is that classic drop in white sink. Just adorable! If you want to see all inspiration pictures here is the Pinterest board for the laundry room.

In the next week I am going to repair the wall, prime the wall, paint the ceiling and prime the cabinets.

Lesson Learned-Removing Tile Counters Properly
-You will need a sledge hammer and hammer, crowbar and wire cutters.

-First smash the all the edges of the counter and remove the bracket you find under.

-Work in sections. Use the sledge hammer breaking through the tile, cement reaching the chicken wire in a line from edge to the base of wall then use a hammer up the backsplash. This takes patience. You do not want to damage the wall under like I did!

-Cut, the now exposed, chicken wire from edge of counter and up through the backsplash.
Use the crow bar to get under section lifting it off of plywood base. This take some muscle...pull section off and then do again at the next section.
Here is a Youtube I watched which was so helpful!

Thank you for checking in!! See you next week.
